Currently, Google only offerd free app downloads.
Amazon launched its own App Store over the weekend, and enabled the paid
download option, the company confirmed to Reuters.
The launch of a major western brand into the mobile apps market may shake up
the local app providers, a number of which have a poor reputation for distributing
virus infected copies of commercial apps. Amazon has promised to vet all apps
prior to their release on its website.
Amazon China spokesman Billy Huang added that Amazon
is the first Western technology company to offer a platform for paid Android
apps in China.
Amazon doesn't currently sell its Kindle e-readers in the country, but the
launch of the app store has heightened speculation that it is close to a product
launch.
